a. The platform is completely free for lawyers to use
a. InstaLaw charges a “platform fees” (separate from lawyer fee) to the consumer
a. No. We charge two separate fees (these are two different line items on the invoice) from the consumer (1) Lawyer fee, and (2) Platform fee
b. The “lawyer fee” is passed on fully to the lawyer. We retain the “platform fee”
a. Lawyers should be in good standing with the local bar
b. Lawyers should be eligible to practice in the state for practice areas that require state authorization
c. Lawyers should have adequate malpractice insurance
d. Lawyers should commit to providing consultations through the platform during the times they select as ‘available’
a. On signup screen on the app, you can select ‘Lawyer’ on the top right and complete the sign-up process
b. One of our team members will contact you within 24 hours to complete the process

a. Copy of state ID or state license that proves you are a lawyer in good standing and allowed to practice in the state
b. Copy of your malpractice insurance that proves you are covered for the specific areas of practice

a. Yes, this consultation (like pretty much any conversation between lawyers and clients) is protected through the American Bar Association Rule 1.18, which includes attorney-client privilege
a. No. All calls are confidential and no third-party will have access to it.
a. This consultation is considered a limited scope engagement. It can turn into a formal attorney-client relationship if both the lawyer and the potential client agree to it
a. No, because we do not take any share from the “lawyer fee” charged to the consumer
b. The lawyer receives the “lawyer fee” in full and we charge a separate “platform fee” directly to the consumer
a. In case you are unable to complete a conflict check prior to the consultation, please note we do not expect this call to create attorney client representation relationship
b. We expect you would conduct a conflict check when the client is ready for a formal engagement with your firm
a. You will receive a “push notification” (or a text message) on your phone
b. If you are available to consult, you can respond to the push notification or the text message and complete the consultation through the app. If you are busy or unavailable, you can ignore the messages or hit “cancel” in the app
c. You can also choose to let us know when you should be contacted, so we only send you notifications when you are open to take consultations. Please choose your slots as per your availability.
a. For sharing documents, we would suggest the consumer to email any documents directly to you (the lawyer)
b. The app does not currently store or facilitate transfer of documents
a. Please let the consumer know and end the consultation within the first 5 minutes (except for Traffic, DUI, Drug offences, Expungements)
b. Also, inform us through the app and/or send us an email at lawyersuccess@instalaw.us to confirm the consultation had to be “cancelled” after it started since you were not the right lawyer
a. If the consumer does not connect within the first 2 minutes after you’ve accepted the request then the call will be cancelled
b. In some circumstances, we also reserve the right to charge a small no-show charge to the consumer
a. After the consultation, we will share your details with the consumer and the consumers’ details with you
b. For a formal representation, you and the consumer would need to create a separate contract
a. At this time, we are still building the feature of extending the consultation beyond 30-minutes. If you need to continue the call beyond 30-minutes, we request you to contact the consumer directly
a. We generally process and credit your money twice a month
b. If you have not received your money, please email us at lawyersuccess@instalaw.us.
