InstaLaw is a platform that provides
a. On-demand virtual consultation with lawyers

Why should I (the lawyer) join your platform?

a. You can help people who need legal consultation, at their time of need
b. You can grow your practice by getting introduced to new clients
c. You can practice at your convenience
d. You get paid transparently for the service you provide on the platform

Do I (the lawyer) have to pay to be on the platform?

a. The platform is completely free for lawyers to use

How does InstaLaw make money? (Refer to the other FAQ for details on this)

a. InstaLaw charges a “platform fees” (separate from lawyer fee) to the consumer

Is there any fee sharing between InstaLaw and lawyer?

a. No. We charge two separate fees (these are two different line items on the invoice) from the consumer (1) Lawyer fee, and (2) Platform fee
b. The “lawyer fee” is passed on fully to the lawyer. We retain the “platform fee”

What is your criteria for signing up lawyers?

a. Lawyers should be in good standing with the local bar
b. Lawyers should be eligible to practice in the state for practice areas that require state authorization
c. Lawyers should have adequate malpractice insurance
d. Lawyers should commit to providing consultations through the platform during the times they select as ‘available’

How do I (the lawyer) sign-up to be on the platform?

a. On signup screen on the app, you can select ‘Lawyer’ on the top right and complete the sign-up process
b. One of our team members will contact you within 24 hours to complete the process
c. Email us at info@instalaw.us in case you have any questions or would like our help in signing you up

What documents do I (the lawyer) need to share with you as part of signup?

a. Copy of state ID or state license that proves you are a lawyer in good standing and allowed to practice in the state
b. Copy of your malpractice insurance that proves you are covered for the specific areas of practice

What if my practice area is not mentioned on the app?

a. Email us at lawyersuccess@instalaw.us and we will work with you to add your area of practice

Is this consultation protected through the attorney-client privilege?

a. Yes, this consultation (like pretty much any conversation between lawyers and clients) is protected through the American Bar Association Rule 1.18, which includes attorney-client privilege

Will the conversations be recorded?

a. No. All calls are confidential and no third-party will have access to it.

Does this consultation result in an attorney-client relationship?

a. This consultation is considered a limited scope engagement. It can turn into a formal attorney-client relationship if both the lawyer and the potential client agree to it

Would this be considered a paid referral?

a. No, because we do not take any share from the “lawyer fee” charged to the consumer
b. The lawyer receives the “lawyer fee” in full and we charge a separate “platform fee” directly to the consumer

What if I (the lawyer) am unable to complete a formal conflict check for a client before the consultation?

a. In case you are unable to complete a conflict check prior to the consultation, please note we do not expect this call to create attorney client representation relationship
b. We expect you would conduct a conflict check when the client is ready for a formal engagement with your firm

How do I know when a consumer contacts me (the lawyer)?

a. You will receive a “push notification” (or a text message) on your phone
b. If you are available to consult, you can respond to the push notification or the text message and complete the consultation through the app. If you are busy or unavailable, you can ignore the messages or hit “cancel” in the app
c. You can also choose to let us know when you should be contacted, so we only send you notifications when you are open to take consultations. Please choose your slots as per your availability.

Can the consumer share documents with me (the lawyer)?

a. For sharing documents, we would suggest the consumer to email any documents directly to you (the lawyer)
b. The app does not currently store or facilitate transfer of documents

What if I am not the right lawyer for the situation?

a. Please let the consumer know and end the consultation within the first 5 minutes (except for Traffic, DUI, Drug offences, Expungements)
b. Also, inform us through the app and/or send us an email at lawyersuccess@instalaw.us to confirm the consultation had to be “cancelled” after it started since you were not the right lawyer

What if the consumer does not show up?

a. If the consumer does not connect within the first 2 minutes after you’ve accepted the request then the call will be cancelled
b. In some circumstances, we also reserve the right to charge a small no-show charge to the consumer

What if the consumer wants to hire me as their attorney?

a. After the consultation, we will share your details with the consumer and the consumers’ details with you
b. For a formal representation, you and the consumer would need to create a separate contract

What if the consultation needs more than 30 minutes?

a. At this time, we are still building the feature of extending the consultation beyond 30-minutes. If you need to continue the call beyond 30-minutes, we request you to contact the consumer directly

How long does it take to receive payments?

a. We generally process and credit your money twice a month
b. If you have not received your money, please email us at lawyersuccess@instalaw.us.

What if my question is not listed here?

a. Please email us at lawyersuccess@instalaw.us. We will get back to you within 2 business days

What is InstaLaw? Why should I use it?

InstaLaw is a mobile application platform that provides
a. 30-minute virtual consultation with experienced, trusted and highly reputable lawyers within minutes, at affordable and transparent pricing
b. We are releasing the platform on a limited launch basis to support consultations in two areas – immigration and intellectual property

How to start using InstaLaw?

a. Download the InstaLaw app from the Appstore/Playstore
b. Enter details of your consultation request (location of service and practice area) along with your profile details (name, email, phone number, payment information) and get connected to a lawyer in minutes
c. You can also choose to create an account on the app: Click on the sign-up option at the bottom of the screen and enter your name, email, password and phone number. Once your phone number is verified through OTP, your account will be created

How does InstaLaw make money?

a. InstaLaw charges consumers a nominal platform fee, which is separate from the consultation fees that is passed on to the lawyer

How do you select lawyers to be on the platform?

a. We have three main criteria to select lawyers.
a. Practice area expertise based on experience
b. In good standing with the state bar association
c. Adequate malpractice insurance

How do you assign the right lawyer for my issue?

a. Based on your choice of location and area of practice our matching algorithm will shortlist and connect you with appropriate lawyers
b. If however, the matched lawyer is not the right person for the consultation, please end the consultation within five minutes and you will not get charged

What if a lawyer for my issue isn’t available?

a. Our aim is to connect you with a lawyer within 5-10 minutes, however, it is possible that in the limited launch period, we are unable to find you a lawyer within 10 minutes
b. If that happens, we will send you a message with contact information of lawyers you can connect with.
c. Also, you are welcome to try again at a later time

How quickly will I be connected to a lawyer?

a. The wait time for a response is generally 5 to 10 minutes.
b. Once the lawyer has accepted the invitation you must connect within 2 minutes to avoid a no-show charge. Please note that you can be billed a no-show charge of $5 if you do not respond (either accept or cancel) the request once a lawyer is on the line.

What if my lawyer abruptly ends the call during the consultation?

a. Our lawyer network is comprised of highly professional and experienced lawyers and we do not expect them to disconnect the virtual consultation abruptly
b. However, in the instance, a call is dropped or cancelled by mistake, you can still join the consultation within one minute of the call drop
c. In case of any questions or concerns, please email us at info@instalaw.us
d. If your call is cancelled or ended by a lawyer within the first five minutes, you will not get charged

What if I want the matched lawyer to represent me in my case?

a. Our objective is to connect you for a consultation with an experienced lawyer within minutes. Beyond the consultation, you and the lawyer are welcome to engage with each other to start a formal engagement with the lawyer’s firm
b. After the consultation, we will share the lawyer’s contact details with you and your contact details with the lawyer

What if I want to talk more than 30 minutes?

a. At this time, we are still building the feature of extending the consultation beyond 30-minutes. If you need to continue the call beyond 30-minutes, we request you to contact the lawyer directly

Does this consultation result in an attorney-client relationship?

Is our conversation protected by attorney-client privilege?

a. Yes, this consultation (like pretty much any conversation between lawyers and clients) is protected through the American Bar Association Rule 1.18, which includes attorney-client privilege

What if I want to consult with the same lawyer later again?

a. In case you would like to consult with the same lawyer, please feel free to connect with them offline based on the information we shared with you about the lawyer
b. If you use InstaLaw app to request a consultation, we cannot guarantee that you will be connected with the same lawyer again

Can I share documents with the lawyer?

a. For sharing documents, we would suggest you to email any documents directly to the lawyer.
b. The app does not store or facilitate transfer of documents

Do you offer free legal services?

a. No, at this time InstaLaw does not offer any free legal services.

How much do I pay for the 30-minute consultation service?

a. We charge two separate fees (these are two different line items on the invoice) from the consumer (1) Lawyer fee, and (2) Platform fee
b. The “lawyer fee” is entirely passed on to the lawyer. We charge a nominal platform fee (up to $25) for the consultation facilitation and technical platform.
c. If your call is cancelled or ended by a lawyer within the first five minutes(except for Traffic and DUI, Drug offences, Expungements), you will not get charged
d. The lawyer fees for each area of practice is given below:
i. Immigration – $75
ii. Intellectual Property – $125
iii. Family (New Jersey only) – $75
iv. Real Estate – Commercial (New Jersey Only) – $50
v. Real Estate – Residential (New Jersey Only) – $50
vi. Traffic – Non DUI (New Jersey Only) – $20
vii. Traffic – DUI, Drug Offences, Expungements (New Jersey Only) – $75
viii. Wills, Estates, Trusts (New Jersey Only) – $50

What forms of payment are accepted?

a. We accept credit and debit cards for payments.
b. All our payments are processed by Stripe and we do not store any financial data

When am I eligible for a refund?

a. Please reach out to us at clientsuccess@instalaw.us if you think you need a refund. Our aim is to help solve your problem and to have happy customers who can help grow this service
